Made by one person
Bopomofo Master is built and maintained by Florent Porrot, an independent developer. There is no company behind it, no investors and no advertising — just an app for learning Taiwan's phonetic alphabet, and this site as its free reference.
Why zhuyin, specifically
Most Mandarin learning tools are built around pinyin and mainland Chinese. Learners of Taiwanese Mandarin end up with resources that quietly assume Simplified characters and a different pronunciation standard. Zhuyin is not a niche curiosity in Taiwan — it is how every child there learns to read, how dictionaries are ordered and how most people type. It deserved a proper app.
Why this website exists
Two reasons. Learning tools should be findable without installing anything first, so the chart, the symbol pages and the converters are free and need no account. And an app store listing is a poor place to explain a writing system — there is only so much you can say in a screenshot caption.
